When asked to comment on US president Donald Trump's earlier claim that if there's no deal between US and Iran, the US is going to hit Iran "extremely hard over the next two to three weeks", and threatens to hit energy infrastructure in Iran, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday that military means cannot fundamentally resolve the issue, and further escalation serves no party's interests. 

We once again urge the parties involved to immediately cease military actions, initiate peace talks as soon as possible, and resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiation, so as to avoid more severe impacts on the global economy and energy security, Mao said.
