Basketball player Guo Ailun, also known as Allen Guo, on Tuesday denied media reports published a day earlier that he and his family had allegedly been targeted in an acquaintance fraud case.

Guo said in a post on his Sina Weibo account that the rumor had fabricated details, claiming the fraudster took advantage of his injury, and even invented a specific name for the supposed fraudster. Guo expressed his dismay at how online rumors could be spread in such an irresponsible way.

Guo said the misinformation was merely seeking traffic and attention, adding, "I was not scammed. Thank you all for your concern."

A day earlier, many media outlets including Xin Huanghe affiliated with Jinan Daily, The Paper, and Hangzhou Daily, reported that Guo and his family were allegedly victims in a large-scale fraud case by an acquaintance, with the amount involved nearing 10 million yuan ($1.38 million). The Xin Huanghe report claimed that it learned from relevant authorities in Shenyang in Northeast China's Liaoning Province that Guo's family had reported the case to the police.

Guo was born on November 14, 1993, in Liaoyang, Liaoning Province. He is a Chinese professional basketball player who plays as a point guard. He graduated from Northeastern University and currently plays for the Guangzhou Loong Lions in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), media reported.
