The international community should continue to step up efforts to promote peace talks and take a clear stand against any actions that undermine the ceasefire or escalate confrontation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a phone conversation with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday.

Dar gave a comprehensive briefing on Pakistan's efforts to mediate talks between Iran and the US, thanked China for its role in promoting peace, and said Pakistan is willing to maintain close communication and coordination with China to jointly play a positive role in achieving regional peace.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reiterated China's principled position, praising Pakistan for facilitating a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran and for hosting talks in Islamabad, noting that it has played a fair and balanced mediating role. He said the current ceasefire remains highly fragile and that the regional situation is at a critical turning point. The top priority is to make every effort to prevent the conflict from reigniting in the Middle East and maintain the hard-won momentum of the ceasefire.

The Five-Point Initiative jointly proposed by China and Pakistan on restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East reflects the consensus of the international community on promoting peace and can continue to serve as a direction for resolving the issue. China welcomes Pakistan playing a greater role and stands ready to work with Pakistan and the broader international community to continue making positive efforts toward the early restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East, Wang said.
