In response to a question regarding the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities claimed that many of the mainland’s 10 policies and measures to boost exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Straits amount to “instrumentalizing exchanges and weaponizing economic and trade ties as part of ‘united front tactics,’" Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a regular press conference on Wednesday, advised the DPP authorities to listen more to public opinion in the island.

Chen said that whenever the mainland introduces measures that benefit Taiwan compatriots, the DPP authorities always smear them; and anything that would advance the interests and welfare of Taiwan compatriots, they vigorously oppose. This approach has been ridiculed by Taiwan media as a “knee-jerk reaction” and has drawn widespread criticism and opposition from various sectors of society on the island.

Chen advised that the DPP authorities to listen more to public opinion in the island and do more to promote cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation, rather than standing against the people and blocking them from gaining benefits.
