Chinese compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are all Chinese and one family. Matters concerning the two sides of the Straits are the internal affairs of the Chinese family, and of course should be discussed and handled through consultation among members of the family themselves, said Chen Binhua, spokesperson of State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference on Wednesday.
Chen made the remarks in response to media inquiries regarding the reported visit to the US scheduled for June by Cheng Li-wun, chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang party in Taiwan region.
The spokesperson added that "Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Straits have sufficient wisdom and capability to properly resolve our own issues and to safeguard and build our shared homeland well."
At the same time, I must emphasize that the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair, Chen said, "We urge the US side to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US Joint Communiqués, and properly handle matters related to Taiwan region."
