Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning

When asked whether China had sent cave diving experts to Laos to join the rescue operation after an accident occurred in a cave in Xaisomboun Province, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday that the initial information showed the trapped individuals were not Chinese citizens, but China is deeply concerned about their safety and hopes they will be rescued soon. 

Recently, a group of villagers entered a cave to search for gold when sudden downpours triggered flash floods, blocking the cave entrance and trapping 7 people inside.
