NATO is a regional defensive alliance with a clear mandate and geographical scope. It should not keep bringing up China on the occasions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said when asked to comment on that during the recent NATO summit, participants raised security concerns toward China regarding technology, military activities, and China-Russia relations.

Mao said that China has always been a force for peace in the world and never threatened any country, nor will it pose a challenge to the security of the Euro-Atlantic region. NATO should abandon its Cold War mentality, correct its perception of China, and stop hyping up the so-called "China threat" narrative, she said.
