The inauguration ceremony of PLA information support force engineering university was held on Saturday morning in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province with the attendance of relevant military and local officials along with university officers and soldiers, according to Hubei Daily.
The Ministry of National Defense announced in May that China will restructure its existing military schools and establish three new military academies. The three institutions are a People's Liberation Army (PLA) university for branches of the army, a PLA information support force engineering university, and the PLA joint logistics support force engineering university.
The PLA information support force engineering university is established based on the College of Information and Communication of the National University of Defense Technology and the communication institute of the Army Engineering University of PLA, with its main campus located in Wuhan.
According to Hubei Daily, the university can trace its roots back to the Radio Training Class of the Red First Front Army, which was established in 1931 by late leaders Mao Zedong and Zhu De.
Over its more than 90 years' history, the institute has trained over 200,000 information and communication professionals for the military. According to China Military Online, as the only university directly affiliated with Information Support Force, the PLA's newly established strategic arm, the university is enrolling students for the first time in 2025, offering 10 undergraduate programs entirely focused on informatization and intelligentization.
The university serves as a cradle for cultivating cyber and information officers in the PLA, specializing in information networks, communication engineering, data intelligence, software systems, and related fields. In 2025, the university plans to enroll 401 undergraduate students from regular high school graduates, 345 male and 56 female.
