The Chinese Consulate-General in Adelaide on Tuesday told Chinese nationals in its consular district, especially students, to step up safety precautions, following reports of a series of recent incidents in multiple parts of Australia in which Chinese nationals and students, without provocation, were assaulted and attacked by local minors on the streets, at stations, and in shopping malls.

In addition to these incidents, the consulate's statement also noted the frequent occurrence of thefts, drowning accidents, traffic incidents, and telecom fraud cases.

It urged Chinese nationals in its consular district, particularly students, to raise their safety awareness, closely follow local news, stay informed about public security conditions in their area, avoid traveling alone at night or visiting high-crime neighborhoods, inform friends or family of travel plans in advance, and, where possible, travel in groups.

If verbally provoked by strangers, they should avoid direct confrontation, leave the scene quickly, or seek help from passersby, and promptly call Australia's emergency number "000" to contact the police.

The statement also reminded Chinese nationals to drive safely, observe local traffic laws, give way to pedestrians, stay alert to road and weather conditions, and avoid fatigued or dangerous driving. When parking for leisure activities, they should lock the doors, close the windows, and avoid leaving valuables in the vehicle.

Regarding water activities, the consulate advised individuals to fully assess risks, prioritize safety, travel in groups for mutual support, avoid unfamiliar or off-limits waters, and refrain from entering the sea in adverse weather or ocean conditions. In case of emergency, they should immediately seek help from the local police. Swimming in rough seas or lingering, hiking, taking photos, or rock fishing near cliffs is also discouraged to prevent accidents.

It further warned against telecom scams, urging Chinese nationals to remember the principle of "do not listen, do not believe, do not transfer money" to safeguard their personal property.
