Xizang's Xigaze local authority forms team for on-site investigation after controversial fireworks show in Himalayas

After a fireworks show by renowned artist Cai Guoqiang in the Himalayas, sponsored by outdoors brand Arc'teryx, prompted wide attention and controversy, authority of Xigaze, Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region released a statement on Sunday, saying that it has set up an investigation team for on-site verification.

After the video of the fireworks show by Cai Guoqiang was released online on Saturday, it attracted public attention. The Communist Party of China Xigaze Municipal Committee and the Xigaze People's Government attach great importance to this matter, have set up an investigation team that rushed to the scene for verification immediately, and will handle the matter in accordance with laws and regulations based on the verification results in the follow-up, read the official statement.

The fireworks show has raised concerns about violating fundamental principles of ecological conservation. Although the organizers had noted in advance that the fireworks were eco-friendly and would be cleaned up afterward, the performance nevertheless sparked controversy on Chinese social media platform.
