When asked to comment on the reported victory of Chilean Republican Party candidate José Antonio Kast, who defeated left-wing candidate Jeannette Jara in the second round of Chile's presidential election held on Sunday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference on Monday that China congratulates José Antonio Kast on his election as president of Chile, noting that Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, and China-Chile relations have maintained a good momentum of development, with fruitful cooperation in various fields. 

Guo said that China stands ready to work with Chile's new government to further strengthen mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation in various areas, promote the continuous advancement of the China-Chile comprehensive strategic partnership, and deliver greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.
