When asked to comment on a joint press conference held on Friday by the Kuomintang (KMT) caucus and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) caucus, during which they announced a proposal to impeach Lai Ching-te, as well as an online petition to impeach Lai launched on the island that has reportedly garnered participation from more than 8 million people, Peng Qing'en, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a Wednesday press conference that they had noted the relevant reports. The Lai authorities, disregarding the well-being of people on the island in pursuit of political self-interest, have continuously manipulated and stirred up political confrontation, triggering strong opposition among Taiwan residents.

Peng noted that Lai has stubbornly clung to a "Taiwan independence" separatist stance, repeatedly trampled on democracy and obstructed freedoms, abused judicial power to suppress and persecute political opponents, and engaged in so-called "green terror" to create a chilling effect, thereby going against public opinion and losing popular support.
