China-US relations are one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world today, and the strategic choices made by China and the US will impact the direction of world history, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, noting that the two countries must find solutions to their respective concerns on the basis of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit, and find the right way to get along.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when addressing a symposium on the international situation and China's foreign relations in 2025 on Tuesday.
Speaking about the China-US relationship, Wang, said that despite the ups and downs in the past year, the China-US relationship has maintained overall dynamic stability, which serves the common interests of the peoples of both countries and aligns with the shared expectations of the international community.
Over the past year, we have consistently approached and managed relations with the US based on the overall and long-term interests of our nation and the world. We have maintained a firm and clear stance on major principle issues and responded resolutely and without concession on issues concerning China's core interests. At the same time, we have engaged in dialogue with the US and sought cooperation, pushing the US side to view China rationally and objectively, and to resolve differences through consultation and dialogue, Wang said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held four phone calls and multiple correspondences, and during their meeting in Busan, South Korea, they engaged in in-depth discussions on major issues concerning China-US relations and global peace and development. These efforts have guided the giant ship of China-US relations through turbulent waters and maintained its correct course, Wang stressed.
Wang also said that the development of China-US relations over the past year has demonstrated that the key to whether the bilateral ties can grow steadily and benefit the world lies in whether the two sides can treat each other with respect, coexist in peace, and pursue win-win cooperation. Both countries stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. It is not feasible for either side to act in a condescending manner, nor is it advisable to say one thing and do another.
