The Chinese Consulate General in Sydney said on Friday that it has confirmed the death of a Chinese citizen who was swept into the sea near Sydney on Thursday.
An official with the consulate general said it is maintaining close contact with all relevant parties and is actively handling the matter while providing assistance, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
According to Australian media reports, emergency services received a report in the early hours of Thursday that a 25-year-old woman was swept into the sea by large waves near Maroubra Beach in eastern Sydney. A joint search-and-rescue operation involving multiple departments later located the woman, but she showed no signs of life.
