The US' actions clearly violate international law and the basic norms of international relations, as well as the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. China calls on the US to ensure the personal safety of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, immediately release the pair, cease attempts to subvert the Venezuelan regime, and resolve issues through dialogue and negotiation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday when asked whether China has any plan to propose specific measures in response to the US' violation of international law and infringement upon Venezuela's sovereignty, and in what specific ways does China intend to address the forcibly seizing of President Maduro, Beijing Daily reported.

"China has already stated its position on this matter," said Lin. "We express serious concern over the US' forcibly seizing of Maduro and his wife and taking them out of the country."

Lin stated that China supports the United Nations Security Council in convening an emergency meeting regarding the US military strike against Venezuela and supports the Council in fulfilling its responsibilities and playing its due role. China is willing to work with the international community to firmly uphold the UN Charter, adhere to the bottom line of international morality, and safeguard international fairness and justice, according to the report.
