Cambodian police recently busted two cases of kidnapping and illegal detaining Chinese nationals in Phnom Penh and Tbong Khmum Province, rescuing 10 Chinese victims and arresting 8 Chinese suspects, according to a reminder published by the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia on Monday.

The embassy on Monday stressed its commitment to safeguarding Chinese nationals' safety and lawful rights in the country, while pressing Cambodian authorities to crack down on crimes targeting Chinese nationals.

Most suspects in such cases are Chinese nationals, according to the release. The embassy reminded that Chinese nationals should boost safety awareness, choose friends carefully, avoid trusting strangers, and refrain from disclosing personal information arbitrarily.

It added that relevant cases are closely associated with illegal activities such as telecom and online fraud, warning people not to covet so-called "high salaries" and go astray, which could trap them in risks like illegal detention and violent abuse, or even put their lives in danger.

The embassy also noted that a large number of victims entered Cambodia through illegal means such as crossing the border illegally, stressing that illegal border crossing is a law-violating act that carries legal liability.

It pointed out that since the Cambodian side has no access to the identities and locations of those who cross the border illegally, timely rescue is often not possible, exposing such individuals to extremely high risks, and it cautioned Chinese nationals not to take chances and risk violating the law.
