Japan bears historical responsibility to the Chinese people on the Taiwan question, having committed innumerable heinous crimes during its 50 years of colonial rule over the Taiwan region. The recent remarks of Hsieh Chang-ting, head of the "Taiwan-Japan Relations Association," disregard history and betray their roots, once again exposing the servile and traitorous nature of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) politicians who grovel to external forces in exchange for their support, Zhang Han, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday.

Zhang made the remarks in response to a media inquiry on claims by Hsieh, who recently took office as head of the "Taiwan-Japan Relations Association," that he would continue seeking to elevate "Taiwan-Japan friendship" into a community-like relationship in the future, remarks that have drawn widespread criticism from netizens on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
