China, Russia to build a more just, equitable global governance system, says Chinese FM addressing question of what new breakthroughs to make with Russia this year

In the face of the current volatile and intertwined international landscape, China and Russia, as world's major countries and permanent members of the UN Security Council, will practice true multilateralism, uphold the international system centered on the United Nations, advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world as well as inclusive and universally beneficial economic globalization, and work to build a more just and equitable global governance system, stated Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Monday, in response to a question regarding the meeting between Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council Sergei Shoigu in Beijing on Sunday. The journalist noted that Wang expressed China's willingness to "advance China-Russia relations to make new progress in the new year," asking the Chinese spokesperson to elaborate on in which areas China hopes to achieve new breakthroughs with Russia this year.

"Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, held strategic communication in Beijing with Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council Sergei Shoigu. China has issued a press release on this meeting, which you may refer to," Lin stated. 

Lin said that China and Russia are comprehensive strategic partners of coordination for a new era. The two sides have maintained close communication on major issues concerning bilateral relations and have supported each other on issues involving their respective core interests, which is conducive to safeguarding the respective and shared interests of both countries.
