Two people have been killed and three others remain missing after a bridge under construction collapsed on Monday afternoon in Yancheng city, East China's Jiangsu Province, local authorities said early Tuesday, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
The local government of Xiangshui county in Yancheng confirmed that a tied-arch beam collapse occurred during the construction of the Yuegang Bridge on the Lianyungang-Shanghai Railway at 5:46 pm on Monday, which is undertaken by China Railway 12th Bureau Group Co., Ltd.
After the collapse occurred, the municipal and county governments immediately organized emergency rescue operations and on-site response efforts. Rescue operations at the scene, investigations, and follow-up handling are currently underway, per Xinhua.
