Addressing a question regarding Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te's recent remarks spreading "Taiwan independence" fallacies during an interview, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday that Lai's related claims once again exposed his nature as a stubborn "Taiwan independence" separatist, fully proving him as a destroyer of peace, a creator of crises, and an instigator of war. Relying on external forces to seek "independence" and using military means to resist reunification is like an ant trying to shake a tree - it is doomed to failure, Lin said.

Lin noted that the claims by Lai fully demonstrate that "Taiwan independence" is the root cause of disaster and the source of turmoil for peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits. 

"No matter what Lai Ching-te says or does, it cannot change the historical and legal fact that Taiwan is part of China's territory, nor can it shake the basic international pattern of adherence to the one-China principle, and let alone can it block the historical trend that China will and must achieve reunification," the spokesperson said.
