When asked for comment on Taiwan side's claim that it was excluded for the first time from the WTO high-level meeting in Cameroon and Cameroon said that it considers the island as a province of China and had sent relevant documents to its delegation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Tuesday that there is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.
On the question of Taiwan's participating in cooperation with international organizations, China's position is consistent and clear - such participation must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle, Lin added.
Lin said that the one-China principle is the political prerequisite for the participation of China's Taiwan region in the WTO. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan have engaged in political manipulation under the pretext of participation in relevant meetings, with utterly despicable tactics, said Lin, adding that their separatist provocations aimed at seeking "Taiwan independence" are doomed to failure and will only bring humiliation upon themselves.
The spokesperson also said that the current international economic and trade order is facing severe challenges, with unilateralism and protectionism on the rise and the multilateral trading system under grave impact. It is of special and significant importance that the WTO Ministerial Conference is held in Africa again after a decade, Lin added.
Lin said China firmly supports Cameroon in hosting this WTO Ministerial Conference.
