A tragic traffic accident left three people dead and another three injured occurred after a man looked at his cell phone while driving his car in Guangzhou, South China’s Guangdong Province on Tuesday, local traffic police announced.
According to a statement released by the Traffic Police Squad of Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau on Tuesday, around 11:00 am on Tuesday, a traffic accident occurred near Zhongshanyi Road in Yuexiu district in Guangzhou, resulting in three deaths and three injuries.
Upon receiving the report of the accident, the police rushed to the scene and assisted in sending the injured to hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by the driver surnamed Chen, a 64-year-old male, who lost control of the vehicle while looking down at his phone.
At present, Chen has been under control by the police, with suspicion of drunk driving and drug use having been ruled out. The accident remains under further investigation, according to the statement.
