A video of Changmao, a Xiasi dog from Chengde, North China's Hebei Province, recently got attraction on overseas social media platforms.

The clip showed Changmao asserting his dominance with an imposing presence, subduing rowdy dogs with ease. Netizens crowned the dog "King Charlie" and "Dog King," with his likeness even printed on T-shirts as merchandise, according to chinanews.com on Saturday.

The owner said Changmao is a purebred Chinese native dog, whose mother was a stray taken in by the owner. From birth, Changmao stood out, preferring to follow the owner rather than play with fellow dogs.

At three months old, Changmao began challenging a larger black dog, losing repeatedly until one decisive fight left the black dog severely injured. That brutal victory cemented Changmao's status as the alpha.

The owner, a lifelong dog lover, now keeps over 100 dogs in his yard. The pack has formed a "tribal" hierarchy, with constant skirmishes over territory, food, and mating, but Changmao rules them all. When the owner is busy with chores, it's Changmao who maintains order.

"Changmao is intelligent, not aggressive, never bullies smaller dogs, and obeys commands. Some fights can't even be stopped with a whip, but when Changmao steps in, they freeze. That speaks of his authority," the owner said.

Responding to accusations of staging dog fights, the owner denied encouraging violence: "I’ve raised these strays since they were pups and always intervene when clashes erupt."
